Week Forty-Four

"So this week was pretty good, but i spent almost my entire week away from my area. I learned a lot from my fellow missionaries but my work here with my companion was set to the side. We still had progress though, heres how it went-

Vinicius(not the same person that was reactivated a couple weeks back.... brazilians all have the same name!)- a 16 yr old who was baptised here in Resende. pretty quite kid but a solid guy whos been quite involved in the church for about a year. With the help of lds realtives and friends in the church, he finally decided to be baptised. I wasn´t too involved too much with the teaching part but at least im very grateful that i was here to help him enter the waters of baptism. Were now helping his uncle recieve the lessons as well... stay tuned!

Flávia- A 17 yr olf girl who has been pretty involved with the church as well. Her grandmother is a recent convert whos been helping Flávia to get to know the church. Flávia comes from a crazy background with parents that are ´´less than supportive,`` and has been living with her grandparents because of it. shes a very curious girl though and we´re preparing her for baptism this sunday!

Pedro and Jéssica- Are throwing their marriage party this week!! with all the marriage expenses here they had to put the party on hold untill now, but there should be plenty of food and non members so Élder Santos and I are excited!

Mother asked me to talk a bit about my comp, ive grown used to assuming that you guys already know how my companions are, not sure why! But anyways im getting along great with him, no complaints here. ive been pretty blessed with my companions so far, ive learned something new with every one of them! Élder Santos is a pretty easy going guy, he´s a guitar player and cooks great so naturally i get along with him. we´ve been making pizzas, cakes, and all sorts of brazilian dishes, he´s teaching all about the culinary arts! we even learned how to make brownies together...

Spiritual thought- This week i really dove into the missionary chapters in Alma, starting with Alma 17(when the sons of Mosiah left off to teach the Lamanites). In verse 11 reads that the sons of mosiah fasted and prayed much, so that they could have the spirit to be with them and be instruments in the hands of the lord(see Alma 17:11 for actual wording). that verse worked on me until one afternoon this week i felt impressed i needed to fast and pray. we ran back to the church and not quite knowing why, i got down on my knees to begin my fast... right then i got a text message from a sister in our ward explaining that her father had tried to commit suicide and that he was in the hospital needing a blessing. I quickly began my fast, pleading for the lord´s guidance so that we could be instruments in the lords hands at that time of great need. we ran(literally) over to the hospital to find a broken man, inside and out. i had never seen anyone so hopeless. i dont remember all the things that were said, but the man accepted a preisthood blessing. through the grace of God the man´s life was spared and my companion and i were able to be at his side at a time off great difficulty. I am so grateful to be a servant of the Lord. I love the Priesthood and the power it contains. when we remain humble and look to the Lord through the scriptures, spirit and the words of the living prophets, we truely can be instruments in the hands of the Lord!"

Week Forty-Three

"BATISSSSSMOOOO!!!!!

Pedro and Jéssica were baptised!! in short on time(again) so i´ll be quick

Their baptism was the most spiritual baptisimal meeting ive ever been to, it took place in a member´s house(the branch in itatiaia doesnt have a baptisimal font). it happened late saturday night and was pouring buckets, but not even the elements could stop their baptism! after some quick photos and a well given message from a ward leader, Pedro and i entered into the pouring rain, and into the members pool. with all of his close friends and his new wife watching from under cover, Pedro entered into the waters of baptism(which wasnt too dificult by the way, the pool was overflowing), shortly after Élder Santos baptised Jéssica, and the next day were both confirmed members of the church; making this week the most sucessful week of the mission, and perhaps of my life. personally, i have felt so close to my Lord, i cant even imagine how Pedro and Jéssica feel now after all that theyve been though to be baptised!"

Week Forty-Two

"This week was... tiring! tons of work with little results. couldnt be happier though!

Pedro and jéssica werent baptised... again! but at least it was a good excuse this time, Jéssica didnt have the medical conditions to be baptised to we´re putting them in the water this saturday instead. i pray that all goes well!

William- im about to baptise this kid against his free will... hahah just kidding! He just has unecessary procupations about baptism, hes more active than his member girlfriend and understands the doctirne well, just lacks that spiritual umph to be baptised at the moment. we´ll continue faithfully with him and do all we can to give him that spiritual experience he needs!

Simão- looks to be progressing very well! he really conquering some personal demons at the moment, but he a man of such great faith that im sure he´ll come out on top! he might be able to enter the water this sunday, cross your fingers!

in other news im staying here for another transfer here in the beautiful city of Resende, lots of work and many baptisms should be coming these next few weeks, im in love brasillllll!!!

spiritual thought- i got stuck in traffic the other day and we were a good 30 min away from resende so there was no way we could walk. in front of us on the back of a truck read this message-

Como Estou Dirijindo?(how am i driving)

a pretty common phrase to be seen on the highways but i paused to ask myself the same question(i guess after a year of applying the scriptures to myself turned into applying EVERYTHING to myself...). i really asked myself how i am driving my life, especially the missionary work. i decided that in many areas im doing well, but in many others theres room for much improvement. it was a samll moment of serious reflection where i congratulated myslef on my personal victories and analyzed my losses so that i can imporve. it was a healthy excersize and a spiritual moment for me, i invite everyone to ask yuourselves the same question- how are you driving?"

Week Forty-One

"super short on time today( played football today for the first time since the states) so i´ll be quick-

im definitely feeling the same diaapointment that sister Hansen felt in her last letter, all three of our baptisms fell through as well!!

William- wants to finish college before he´s baptised... not sure whats thats about but we´ll follow up with him this week.

Pedro and Jéssica- all was going well until sunday, they were married this week, passed the interview and were all set for the baptism. but sunday came and the branch in Itatiaia decided to push their baptism to next sunday... LIXO! its what the investigaotr wants, not the branch. I know that they´ll be baptised, but why wait? the scriptures are full of example of saints who just´´left theier nets`` and followed Christ. just get in the water and the rest follows, haha i´ll let everyone know how their baptism gows next week!

Com amor e fé, Élder Hansen"
